Anchoring off Belize

Sunrise on Wednesday morning and you can see the sun is trying to enlighten us but the clouds have other ideas.

Other ships had followed us through the winding ship channel during the night.

Our Italian Captain was on the Bridge and once in position dropped one of the anchors as there is no harbor for cruise ships in Belize.  Normally in such a case we would ride ashore in some of the ship's lifeboats (called Tenders) but in Belize local boats would run a shuttle service between the 4 ships that would eventually anchor and the small dock they have ashore.

Two ships from the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet come to join us-Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Jewel.  A Carnival ship is following them in. All 4 ships would total over 10,000 passengers coming ashore today if they had an interest in Belize.

We will gather about 5 miles off shore in deep water.

We anchored at 7 a.m and we had an excursion at 9 so that left us plenty of time to have breakfast in Sabatini's.

A double cappuccino

Some of my favorite cold meats to start the day

Followed by corned beef hash and bacon. This isn't on the menu but as a Suite Guest you can order anything that is being cooked on the ship that morning and the staff will go to another kitchen to get it for you.

After breakfast while Carol was collecting all she needed before going ashore I went up to the Promenade Deck (deck 7) for a cigarette.

As well as all the lifeboats on the ship there are also multiple life rafts like these for the crew.

Detailed instructions are easy to understand, given that there are over 50 different Nationalities and languages among the crew.

A continuous stream of tenders came from the shore to the 4 ships at anchor.

So with a big breakfast to carry us through the morning we were both ready to go ashore..... (video)
