The Pantheon

Every time I would walk past the Pantheon over the two days we were in Rome there were crowds inside.  As this was our last day in Rome we had no choice but to join them. As it is just one large room it wouldn't take long to see it all.

So we went in. Admission is free.

The dome is open to the elements and reaches 142ft above the ground. It was made of concrete
2,000 years ago! It is still the world's biggest unsupported dome to this day. The Pantheon has been used continually as a church for the past 1300 years.

We were in there for maybe 15 minutes. When we came out we thought it was time to eat something as we hadn't eaten since 9 a.m and it was now after 5 p.m.

We had seen a couple enjoying a pizza when we had dinner at Virginiae the night before and now had a craving to try authentic Italian pizza. It would also give me an excuse to have a nice cold beer as it was a hot afternoon.

In a narrow street next to our hotel we found a table on the sidewalk.  Wherever we are in the world if the weather is good we like to eat outdoors and watch the world go by.

We each ordered a pizza. Mine had to be pepperoni. Normally in the USA I rarely eat pizza and when I do I don't eat a whole pie. Today would be different. I was hungry and this was a really good thin-crust pizza.

Wow-that was a filling meal indeed. It was time to go back to the hotel and relax. We'll take a look at the hotel next. We have already booked it for this September 2015 trip when we return to Rome.
