Cafe Sacher Vienna

This is the street that the Sacher happily sits on. The Vienna Opera is the building on the right but much too big to fit the shot. This was before the thunder, lightning and rain.

Here are some interior shots of the cafe...

It's a cosy spot for sure and one we will always visit on trips to Vienna.  We didn't have long to spend in the city-maybe 36 hours. Originally Carol had thought that we might just go back to enjoy Munich for a couple of extra days, after Bayreuth, but I suggested as we were 350 miles closer to Vienna than we normally are (roughly 4,000 miles) that a brisk drive would bring us to one of our favorite hotels in one of our favorite cities. So here we were. In a thunderstorm but happy as clams, which sounds like a bizarre yardstick for happiness but I'll have to go with it.

When the rain stopped we walked the short walk home, past all the ritzy high-end shops with their stunning window displays and into the comfort of the Grand, where a pianist was playing in the lobby bar. It would have been nice to sit a while and relax with a drink but sleep was a wiser choice as I hoped to be out on the streets early in the morning, as is my custom.

So sleep it was.
