Hotel Majestic

We said our thanks and goodbye to Anna and Luis when they stopped at the Hotel Majestic. A bellman was quickly by the car to welcome us and take our luggage.

As I had packed my camera away just before arrival the first picture of the hotel (below) was taken later that evening when I was getting money from an ATM across the street. We had a balcony room high up, below the letter M.

The Hotel sits on Passeig de Gracia, a wide boulevard and was two blocks away from 2 more Gaudi attractions. We'll get to those much later.

There's a reception desk just inside the door but when we went there we were directed to another, smaller  desk around a corner where 3 Spanish fashion models were attending to guests. While the two ladies were engaged a young suave and friendly man immediately offered a welcome and assistance. He booked us in but told us our room wasn't yet ready and offered to store our luggage while we killed the hour or so that would pass before we could get into our room on the 7th floor.

Where could we find a drink and a snack? Our rooftop bar was the answer and it was a great answer!

Soon we were sitting up there on the 10th floor.....

Wherever I go in the world I like to try their French Fries if they are on the menu. These hit the spot!

We shared a plate of Jamon Iberico and tomato bread. At Euro 25 it was not cheap but the flavors were superb. We were relaxing after that. I was washing it down with draught Estrella beer.

The rain stayed away. The bar wasn't crowded. The few people there were relaxing.

I took a look around with the camera....

In this shot the twin funnels of Celebrity Equinox, docked in the harbor (best place for a ship to dock)
can be seen in the distance on the Right side of the picture.

The Gaudi house, Casa Batllo has a crowd outside it as people line up to get tickets.

In the distance, at Right, is Sagrada Familia

Passeig de Gracia, a wide boulevard with a frontage road to allow access to the hotels, shops and cafes. The taxis are yellow and black and wait at ranks.

Buildings on street corners are angled to let more light into the street

Our waitress told us our room was ready and although we could have stayed on the rooftop longer just soaking up the ambiance we wanted to get to our room and get unpacked.

We unpacked. Stepped out onto our balcony. Then decided to enjoy the luxury of a 90 minute nap before continuing our first day in Barcelona.
