Coffee

We awoke to a beautiful Saturday morning in Downtown Houston and as it was a Saturday there were few people around. The offices were closed  and stores that cater to the weekday lunch-time business took the weekend off. Fine by me as the fewer people in the streets the more room for me.

As I was up early ( 7 a.m) I went looking for a coffee shop and didn't have to walk far. Two blocks away I found one -no, not a Starbucks-something better.....an Italian Coffee Shop called Minuti Coffee.

It's on the bottom floor (at center) of the famous former Rice Hotel (which is now Rice Lofts)

There is a nice outdoor seating are where you see the circles cut  and sofas, chairs and tables for people like me who want to be outside, watching the world go by.

There are snacks-sandwiches, wraps, cookies, cold drinks if you want something for breakfast but we were having breakfast in the hotel (complimentary) at 9 a.m

This man worked the espresso machine using imported beans from Italy

Cappuccino with an extra shot of espresso ( I like a strong coffee flavor!)

Watching the world go by on the corner of Texas and Main.

After a good buffet breakfast (not Germany good but decent) I wanted to show Minuti to Carol.
She had a latte and I had a double espresso. She loved the outdoor seating where people were nursing coffees and reading books on their Kindles. Someone even had a newspaper -made out of paper!
I prefer those over the Kindle, just for the tactile feel of the paper.

As we sat there for an hour we noticed a tram/train (running on tracks but powered from electricity above) running down Main Street. One left every 12 minutes. As we had tickets to the Houston Museum of  Natural Science and these trains went there, we decided to leave the car in the garage and go to the Museum.

The trains are clean and efficient, smooth and quiet and cheap!  $5 for two of us to the Museum and back.

They run from platforms in the middle of the street-ticket machines are on these platforms. You cannot pay on the train...

Old stores opposite our platform

The train runs through this water feature on Main Street

Another new apartment building going up in the Downtown Area

Next- the Houston Museum of  Natural Science
