Venice sail away

At 1p.m, as advertised, the ship cast off from the dock at San Basilio, and, with a tug following, set a course for our first port of call-Dubrovnik, Croatia.

As the Venice sail away is considered one of the most memorable in cruising I had brought with me a tripod so I could set my camcorder to record the experience while I was free to move around our balcony and take still photos. The tripod was small and therefore portable which is what you need when traveling to far-off places. I left the camcorder running...

The following photos were taken from the ship as it moved down the Guideca canal, eventually to the open Adriatic sea.

This little bridge is the last one we sailed under on the Water Taxi to the ship

Passengers on the decks above

St Mark's Square, teeming with people

Looking back where the Grand Canal on the right meets the Guideca Canal

The Doge's Palace which we will visit next time when we are in Venice

This is the Vaparetto station which has a person working the ticket booth and where we got our 24 hour passes late on our first night in Venice.

To be continued.........

  1. Great photos as usual Norris. Thanks very much for sharing and bringing back some lovely memories. The Doge's Palace is very interesting and well worth a visit. As well as seeing the palace you get to walk through the Bridge of Sighs to the prison on the other side which was fantastic.
