Oysters, fresh from the Croatian sea

This was the little village (literally "Small Ston" is the name) where we would board our oyster boat for a trip out to the oyster beds.

Boarding the boat where there is a large table with many plates and glasses. Somewhere in my future is a glass of wine! Hooray!

We are in a small harbor. The sky is cloudy but it is warm and the bay is calm

One of the crew, who spoke very good English told us how the oysters grew out here ( see video)

The oysters were hauled aboard and a man set about shucking them from their shells. White wine was poured and was very good- like a dry Pinot Grigio.

The aftermath of our feast!

Oysters, mussels, fresh bread, a squeeze of lemon and a glass to two of white wine was a nice finish to our oyster trip. The boat headed back to the harbor and there was another seafood meal waiting for us in a restaurant (seen on the video). Some pan-fried sardines about 5 inches long were the star of that meal.

Back to the ship we went in the motor coach. It took about 45 minutes. When we arrived there were no taxis waiting so my plan to visit Dubrovnik will have to wait until another visit to Croatia and I am sure we will return someday.

An hour later the ship would be the last to sail away from Dubrovnik just as a rain cloud hovered over the city.

While on the pool deck having a beer before sail away I went to the Trident Grill cafe for a knackwurst, sauerkraut and crispy French fries. Everything was made fresh while I waited and behind me in line was the Captain so we talked for a little while. He told me that next day the wind would be behind us. I told him we had an aft suite and we didn't want wind so could he reverse all the way to Malta? He laughed but of course that was not an option. He told me the harbor in Valetta, Malta was one of his favorites. Beautiful was his word so now I was really looking forward to that. We would have a day at sea though before we docked in Valetta on Wednesday.

Trident Grill, which on this small ship closed at 7 pm (11 pm on the bigger ships)

There was still a P&O ship due to leave before us....

P&O Ventura

I had asked the Captain how we were going to get out of here as the ship was pointing the wrong way.
He said he'd wait until Ventura left and then reverse around the corner. I approved of his plan.

The Ventura was gone so I told the Captain to proceed... He said "Aye Aye, a**hole" or something to that effect.

We just had to wait for the pirate ship to get out of the way

A truck ferry. Suddenly there were a lot of little boats around.

The basin was clear now so we began our turn

A dark cloud descends on Dubrovnik. We had just had afternoon tea delivered (eating again)

Once we got away from the port and had traveled a couple of miles the heavy rains came to the city so we had got out just in time.

We were bound for Malta but we'd have a whole day at sea before we got there.....
