The walled town of Ston

A short bus ride from Tristeno found us in Ston. Here we could get out and stretch our legs on one of those leg-stretching machines found in Europe (cost 2E) listen to some history and eventually get a drink, which was high on my list of priorities.

These photos show part of the wall, built for protection in older times. The wall was part of a Marathon Course held the day before which I would have loved to have taken part in if it wasn't for the fact that I don't like running.

Our guide gives a brief history lesson while I stand at a safe distance as I was smoking and not wishing to offend.

Carol the Cat Lover Extraordinaire sees a cat who looks like it could use a nice filling pork chop for lunch. Our guide is talking behind her (blond hair, brown chart, blue jeans)

The cat was one of many strays found in the streets of Ston. Someone has kindly brought them a bowl of water. Got to stay hydrated!

Savory smells and the clink of glasses holding cold local beer caught my attention. It was lunchtime for the locals. I smelled fried fish...

Someone very talented and patient took the trouble to draw this 3-D representation of Ston.
Famous for it's salt mines, one of the reasons for it's protective wall which is the longest city wall in Europe apparently. Who knew?

Vultures gather on a rooftop as we are dying of thirst. Or they may be pigeons...

The guide stopped talking except to say that we would have 20 minutes free time to buy souvenirs, buy a drink or go to a toilet (or all three)

Here we have a photograph of my much-anticipated Croatian beer.

The bill (in local currency) came to 3 Euros for a beer and a sparkling water.

After our relaxing, refreshing drinks we walked back to the bus to travel the next 3 miles to Maliston where we would meet our oyster boat....

Here's the video of our short time in Ston followed by the boat trip......
