Bird's Eye View

Having climbed the steps up from the floor of the Forum we approached the Victor Emmanuel II monument from the rear so we had to walk all the way around to the front entrance.

We were confronted by a very long flight of stairs.

Then more stairs

That first long flight of stairs brings you to an open plaza with nowhere to sit and catch your breath. The next flight had a couple of concrete benches with seating for 3 to 4 people and luckily we found some room on one.

I went inside while Carol took a breather, to see what lay ahead. Many more stairs but at least they were out of the sun. If you have trouble walking stay away! We had another couple of floors (with very high ceilings) to climb before we would get to the elevator which would take us to the roof.

Finally the builder had run out of stairs and we came to an open roof deck and found the elevator to the roof. There was a 7 Euro fee per person and they only take cash.  It's a short ride to the rooftop.

It was worth all the effort to get up there...

One last look

What goes up must come down but of course all those stairs were easier this time. There was a taxi stand across the street and we were soon driving back to the Pantheon. Carol stopped at the hotel to unwind with a Kindle read while I made my way over to Eustachio square for a cold refreshing beer at a sidewalk cafe-just what the Doctor ordered after so much walking and stair-climbing!

We had no more adventures planned for the afternoon so I returned to the hotel to relax.

Here are some video clips of my day so far......

Next up- sunset and dinner
